A+I partnered with the world-renowned music streaming platform, TIDAL, to design their first-ever office in New York City, marking an important milestone in the company’s history. Designed with an artist-first approach, the new workplace serves as a physical representation of TIDAL’s mission in space as the company embarks on a new chapter post-acquisition by Block, Inc., and is a meaningful demonstration of its commitment to empowering and supporting artists.

As a customer-centric company, TIDAL’s office places the needs of musicians at its forefront, reimagining it for creative collaboration and community building with artists, industry partners, and employees. It’s a future-forward environment where they can work, create, and share their love of music.  Across two floors, the 11,500 SF office design is emblematic of a residence and serves as an intentional nexus for gathering, placing artists at the center of the story.

TIDAL’s ethos and position as a ‘Movement for Artist Empowerment’, inspired A+I’s strategic direction for the project and intimately informed the design. TIDAL’s desire to give artists the tools they need to amplify their music and build their brand led A+I to create a space that would serve as a home for TIDAL. Designed to be warm and inviting, reminiscent of a residence, the dedicated space allows them to host, celebrate, and support their artists and partners, as well as their valued employees.

The space is organized around four key experiences: The Salon, Living Room, Study and Studio, each tuned to a desired amplitude energetically, acoustically, and visually, all united around music.

- The Salon, teaming with warmth and light, welcomes with a reception bar and lounge and is designed to double as a workspace or as a hosting and listening room. The listening room, enveloped in a vibrant burgundy, is engineered with precision for high quality music listening.

- The Living Room, a collaborative work lounge and pantry, serves as an all-hands presentation space and boasts a performance stage with an adjacent speakeasy nook walled in a deep green.

- The Study, designed with wood accents, soft textures, and neutral tones, serves as a calm, focused work environment.

- Finally, the Studio is an intimate, yet lively, wing designed for connection among artists, brands, and collaborators. The design is music-centric and tech forward with punches of color to encourage a deep dive into the creative act.

The overall design layers versatility into each space, accommodating anything from an album launch, to an entourage of collaborators, or heads-down, individual work. The careful consideration of materiality, palette, and meticulous attention to the various moods and postures across all spaces have resulted in a collaboration-forward and artist-centric workplace.

In alignment with A+I’s broader philosophy on workplace design, the collaboration with TIDAL signifies a departure from the conventional workplace as a means to house people and desks. Instead, the design emphasizes the brand and community experience, reflecting the changing role of physical space for companies. A+I believes in creating spaces that transcend mere functionality; the design for TIDAL anticipates the need for workplaces to be intentional, purposeful landscapes that actively contribute to an organization’s culture, creativity, and identity.

Today, the space is serving as a critical tool for TIDAL’s artists and the company’s employees, fostering collaboration, showcasing talent, and propelling the business forward.
